
Karen is a registered nurse currently working in an advanced practice role in Trauma and orthopaedics, in a large teaching hospital. She has an interest in trauma orthopaedics, fragility fracture management and the impact of fractures on older people. She qualified in 1987 and since then has held a variety of posts in orthopaedic nursing in both clinical and leadership roles
She is currently The Past President of Fragility Fracture Network, but has been an active member of the Fragility Fracture Network since its inception, focusing particularly on Nurse education and leadership
She has been involved in the development of the National Hip Fracture Database in the UK, and was a guideline group member for NICE clinical guideline 124 for management of hip fractures. She has published many journal papers, clinical guidelines and book chapters.
She also co-authored Fragility Fracture Nursing, Holistic care and Management of the Orthogeriatric Patient (2018) and more recently Fragility Fracture and orthogeriatric Nursing (2024) and is a series editor for Springer series Perspectives in Nursing Management and care of Older Adults.
