Cynthia Ng

Cynthia Ng is a senior anchor, editor and producer at Astro AWANI,Malaysia’s most trusted news brand.

She anchors AWANI International, the channel’s English-language prime-time programme focusing on geopolitics and global aff airs. She also frontsAWANI Review, a series of in-depth conversations with newsmakers onissues shaping business and society.

Over the course of her career, Cynthia has reported on major stories inMalaysia and around the world, including the country’s General Electionsand the MH370 and MH17 tragedies. She has also developed deepexperience in business and economic journalism, including during her timeat Bloomberg before rejoining Astro AWANI.

Cynthia has interviewed some of the world’s most prominent political andbusiness fi gures, including Christine Lagarde when she was IMF ManagingDirector, Alibaba founder Jack Ma, and Malaysia’s 16th Yang di-PertuanAgong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in a rareinterview. She regularly speaks to senior policymakers and businessleaders, including those from Google, Microsoft, Citigroup, Prudential,Petronas and AirAsia.

She has also taken on a broader editorial role within Astro. Cynthiaconceptualised and helped launch the organisation’s fi rst English-languagedigital platform focused on leadership, strategy and management. She wasalso part of the team behind an award-winning documentary on drugabuse.

Cynthia is fl uent in English and Bahasa Malaysia and regularly moderatesconferences and panel discussions. She is known for her thoughtfulapproach to interviews and her ability to make complex subjects accessiblewithout losing their substance.

She graduated with First Class Honours in Mass Communications (Film andTelevision) from UCSI University Malaysia and was one of the fi nalists forthe Southeast Asia Women of the Future Awards 2020.
